📌 I WONDER
I’m preparing this edition on Wednesday 14th September 2022. Today, the Queen’s coffin is to be taken to Westminster Abbey to lie in state until her funeral on 19th September. But as you read this, those events have already happened.
At my time of writing these words, our country is in mourning. We have witnessed heartbreaking images on our televisions. I, for one, have shed tears every day. It has been one of the most upsetting public events I’ve experienced in my sixty years of life.
The nation has been jolted, shocked and the mood has changed on a countrywide level. People have united in grief. They have lined the streets in their thousands, some throwing flowers at the passing Royal cars. Others have bowed their heads in respect. I’ve watched people saluting the Queen’s car and other clapping out of a need to show their support.

I believe many others have come to realise this too over the past few days. For me, it’s the first time in years I almost feel proud to be British once again.
I say almost. As soon as this is all over, as it is for you reading this, I fear the return of aspects of our society that are unpleasant, nasty, selfish, egotistical, unruly, and downright antisocial. Politicians arguing instead of working together. Leaders that should be setting examples that we can all live be, instead, fighting, running each other down and pulling the very fabric of our society into shreds.
