PAR FOR COURSE PERHAPS
There are some interesting and thought-provoking words from our speaker in spirit today. When I was writing the ‘Afterthoughts’ I was reminded of some of my interests before I became interested in spiritualism. I have spoken to many other friends studying this subject and have become aware that my early interests weren’t unusual.
I used to buy books on hypnotism and was fascinated by how stage-performing hypnotists were able to make normal people perform silly acts. I was intrigued by how a hypnotist could manipulate someone’s mind, helping them to overcome fears, and phobias. I wanted to have that skill and so did some basic study.
I also had an interest in psychology and at one time almost signed up for an Open University course to study it. Money to fund that pursuit was not available and so I limited my learning of the subject to a few random books I found at charity shops.
It would appear to me that my interest in spiritualism, in particular, the work of mediums delivering messages from the ‘dead’ filled a void I had for understanding life at a deeper level than ordinary folks.
I recall when I interviewed the wonderful Minister Val Williams. She mentioned that at one time in her life, she too studied hypnotism. I believe that these two subjects act like funnels that we fall into on our way to the container for spiritualists!
